16 girls from Pobalscoil competed in the South Munster Track and Field Schools Championships in CIT Cork on Wednesday May 6th. In the Minor Girls, Caoimhe Daly was 2nd in the Junior 1200m Walk, Alyce O’Connor was 3rd in the 800m, Julie O’Sullivan was 4th in the Shot Putt, Katie Palmer was unable to run the 100m due to injury but did take part out of age in a field event and was 4th in the Junior Discus narrowly missing out on a medal by 2cm.
In the Junior Girls, Christine McCarthy was 1st in the Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump, Cara Daly was 1st in the 1200m Walk and 2nd in the 800m, Elinor Dennison was 4th in the 100m final and 5th in the Javelin.
In the Inter Girls, Helena O’Sullivan was 2nd in the 800m and 4th in the 300m and Chloe McCarthy was 5th in the Long Jump.
On Friday May 8th in the South Munster Schools Boys events Iarlaith Hayes won the Junior boys javelin.
In the Munster Finals on Saturday 17th May at CIT, Christine McCarthy came 2nd in the Junior girls long jump and 4th in the high jump and Rhona Randles won the Minor Girls 800m. Laura Hallissey came 3rd in the Senior Girls 800m. All three girls now go on to the Munster finals.
Well done to Christine McCarthy and Rhona Randles who represented Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine at the All Ireland Schools Track and Field Finals in Tullamore on Saturday May 30th. Christine competed in the Junior Girls Long Jump and finished ninth overall. Rhona ran a very impressive 800m finishing 4th, narrowly missing out on a silver or bronze medal in the end.
