Our indoor season started with the Munster Indoors on 28th February/1st March at the Nenagh Indoor Arena and we came away with 2 bronze medals, the first won for the club at this event. Gary Randles came 3rd in the U14 boys shot and Christine McCarthy came 3rd in the U16 girls high jump. In the U15 girls long jump Elinor Dennison finished in 6th place overall, her first top 8 placing with a new PB of 4.35m. She also finished second in her semi final of the 60m sprint but her time was just outside of the qualifying time for the final. Also competing over the weekend for the first time were Abby Littlejohn and Abby Murray.
Christine and Gary then went on to the National Indoor finals at the AIT International Arena in Athlone. On 21st March Christine McCarthy finished 4th in the U16 girls high jump with a new PB of 1.55m, narrowly missing out on the 3rd place medal on her last jump. The following weekend Gary Randles also finished in 4th place in the U14 boys shot. A great achievement and the first time the club had athletes competing at this level.
Four club athletes made the journey to the Munster Schools indoors in Nenagh on Tuesday 3rd March. Christine McCarthy won silver in the Junior girls long jump with a leap of 4.69m, a new PB for her and Elinor Dennison finished in 4th place. Gary Randles also won silver in the Minor boys 600m. Elinor Dennison and Jamie Harrington reached the finals of the 60m sprint but finished outside of the medals on this occasion.
