Munster Schools 2016

Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine had a record number of athletes qualify for the Munster Schools track and field championships. A sure sign that training with the club and in some cases the Kerry Athletics Development Squad is really paying off for our older athletes.

In the South Munster qualifying rounds, the girls were first up on the 5th May. Gold medals went to Christine McCarthy who won the Intermediate Girls high jump with a new PB of 1.60m. Christine trains regularly with the development squad in Castleisland on Sunday morning and is also a member of the Munster Development squad. In the Junior Girls 1500m, Rhona Randles took gold with Alyce O’Connor picking up silver. These two girls are proving hard to beat in middle distance events. Aobha O’Shea won the Inter girls walk. There was silver for Elinor Dennison in the Intermediate Girls long jump with a jump of 4.93m, a jump that equaled that of gold medal position. Elinor also reached the final of the 100m and a year out of age is showing great promise as a sprinter. She trains in Castleisland on Sunday mornings and is hoping to make the Munster Development Squad this year. Emma O’Regan came second in the Junior 75m hurdles and Katie Palmer took silver in the Junior long jump and bronze in the walk, just behind Caoimhe Daly who picked up silver.

The boys took to the track exactly a week later and there was gold for Cormac O’Sullivan in the Inter triple jump and Gary Randles in Junior shot. Gary also came second in the javelin. Other silver medal winners where Peter Offereins in Intermediate javelin and Conor O’Brien in Junior walk.
