The Kerry County Juvenile and Masters Championships were held over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of May. Glorious sunshine on the Saturday saw the sprints in all ages and some of the middle distance races run off without a hitch. Sadly the same couldn’t be said of Sunday, which was wet and miserable from the start. So much so in fact the meet managers made the decision to postpone some of the long jump and triple jump events and these will be held at a future date. There was a good spread of medals across all the clubs taking part, so much so that the overall club would be hard to predict at the moment and the winner will be announced once the last few events have been held. Kenmare triumphed in the field events. Elinor Dennison won the U15 girls javelin to retain the county title for the 3rd time. Iarlaith Hayes won the U15 boys title for the second time. Abby Littlejohn threw a huge 23.95m in the U13 girls javelin to take second place and then went on to win the shot. Gary Randles was the outstanding male athlete of the day, coming away with 7 individual medals! Mind you Cian Hanley was not far behind him. Christine McCarthy retained her high jump title, equalling the record of 1.50m again but the poor weather stopped her having a go at clearing 1.55 to create a new record. After 5 years of finishing in 3rd place in the 100m sprint Elinor finally topped the podium to take the county title. For these and all other results, click on the results tab above.
