This 9 week course provides a gentle introduction to running and is suitable for all fitness levels. A mixture of walking and short runs in the first few weeks builds up to longer runs and shorter walks over the course and you will be surprised at how quickly your body adapts to the new regime. The beginners’ program we follow is less of a running regimen than a walking and jogging program. The idea is to transform you from couch potato to runner, getting you to begin running a 5K or 3.1 miles and on a regular basis in just 9 weeks. Each session will take about 30 minutes, three times a week, the same amount of moderate exercise recommended for optimum fitness. The three days are spread out throughout the week to give you a chance to rest and recover. All participants are encouraged to go at their own pace with no pressure to go faster. For now focus on gradually increasing the time or distance you run.
The 2014 program starts on Monday 3rd February and there are 2 options for the new year.
Option 1: GAA car park, 9:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Option 2: Gortamullen Business Park, 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.
There will be a pre-registration and information meeting on the concourse at the SuperValu Shopping Centre at 2pm on Saturday 25th January and again 30 minutes before the 1st session.
