On Saturday February 9th 2013, Kenmare Athletic Club hosted their second fund raising event. This year our chosen charities for the 1 mile Charity Fun Race for U18s were Fix Crumlin, The Brothers of Charity and Kenmare Special Needs Group. The 1 miler which started at 1pm and was run through Kenmare Golf Course and Reenagross Park was won by Laura Hallissey with Conor O’Brien from Sneem not far behind. All the participants received medals and refreshments after the race. Well done to all the boys and girls who contributed to this worthy cause.
2pm saw the start of the adults 10km race with 103 runners taking part this year. The race was won by Shane Simcox from Mallow AC in a time of 34:49. Arthur Fitzgerald from Farranfore was second and in third place was Willie Reidy from Riocht AC in Castleisland, who was also the first man over 40 to complete the race. For the ladies Maura Regan from Eagle AC was first in a time of 40:10 followed by Deirdre O’Leary from Star of The Laune in second place and Siobhan Daly from Riocht AC in 3rd place. First Kenmare man home was Robert Whyte and first Kenmare lady Joan O’Sullivan. Kenmare AC would like to say a special thank you to all our sponsors who contributed so generously and to all who participated and helped out on the day. A full list of results is available here.
